Sycamore from Newtownabbey, that fell in 2022. Sycamore is widely known for it's natural antibacterial properties, and was regarded as the home of the spirits by the Celts, leading to sycamore trees being planted close to homes.
The burnt and stained pattern is from a piece of the gold belt buckle found at the Sutton Hoo. This section depicts two intertwined serpents. Sutton Hoo is a ship burial site, and the buckle found dating to the early 7th Century.
The platter is 13.5 inches wide by 1.5 roughly, and finished with linseed oil.
