Near Varde, the Hornelund Hoard contained amongst other things, two very intricate brooches, often cited as the finest examples from the 10th century.
The brooches were a melding of Norse art in the centre and Christian art around the edge- each measured about 3.3 inches.
I loved the patternwork on the brooches when I first learned about them, replicated on this mahogany platter, around 12.5 inches by 1 deep.
